Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of bacon
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups of cubed bread (preferably day-old or stale)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon (cut into smaller pieces) until crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate, reserving 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the skillet.
  2. Place cubed bread in a large mixing bowl. If using fresh bread, lightly toast it in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes to dry it out.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  4. Crumble the cooked bacon into the bowl with the cubed bread. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and bacon, gently folding until the bread is coated.
  5. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, reserving 1/2 cup for topping.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  7. Pour the bread, bacon, and egg mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until set in the middle and golden brown on top.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it sit for about 10 minutes to firm up.
  11. Cut into squares and serve warm, garnished with chopped green onions if desired.
  12. This casserole is perfect for any meal and can be customized with additional vegetables or different meats.
