Ingredients
Scale
2 large blood oranges, peeled and segmented
1 frozen banana, sliced
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or non-fat, your choice!)
1/4 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, like almond, soy, or oat milk)
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon chia seeds (optional, for added thickness and nutrients)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)
A few ice cubes (optional, for a colder smoothie)
Blood orange slice, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the Blood Oranges: Carefully peel each orange, removing as much white pith as possible. Segment the oranges over a bowl to catch any juice.
Slice the Banana: Slice the frozen banana into smaller pieces.
Gather Your Ingredients: Measure out the Greek yogurt, milk, honey (or maple syrup), chia seeds (if using), and vanilla extract (if using).
Combine Ingredients in the Blender: Add the blood orange segments (and any juice collected), frozen banana slices, Greek yogurt, milk, honey (or maple syrup), chia seeds (if using), and vanilla extract (if using) to your blender. Add ice cubes if desired.
Blend Until Smooth: Blend on low speed, gradually increasing to high, until smooth and creamy (30-60 seconds). Add more milk if too thick, or more ice/frozen banana if too thin.
Taste and Adjust: Adjust sweetness or tanginess to your liking. Add more honey/maple syrup if not sweet enough, or a squeeze of blood orange juice/dollop of Greek yogurt if too sweet.
Pour into a Glass: Pour the smoothie into a glass.
Garnish (Optional): Garnish with a slice of blood orange, chia seeds, or mint.
Serve Immediately: Enjoy immediately.
Notes
Vegan: Substitute Greek yogurt with plant-based yogurt and honey with maple syrup or agave.
Add Protein: Add a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder.
Boost the Greens: Add a handful of spinach or kale.
Spice it Up: Add a pinch of ground ginger or cinnamon.
Use Different Citrus: Substitute blood oranges with regular oranges, tangerines, or grapefruit.
Make it Ahead: Combine ingredients in a freezer-safe bag and freeze. Blend when ready, adding extra milk if needed.
Adjust Sweetness: Adjust the amount of honey or maple syrup to your liking.
Use Frozen Blood Orange Segments: Freeze the blood orange segments before blending for an even colder and thicker smoothie.
Add Nut Butter: Add a tablespoon of your favorite nut butter to the blender for a creamier and more satisfying smoothie.
Experiment with Flavors: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavors and ingredients.
