Enjoy a refreshing homemade boba milk tea featuring chewy tapioca pearls, rich black tea, and creamy milk. Perfect for any occasion, this customizable drink can be sweetened with your favorite flavored syrups for an extra touch of delight!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup tapioca pearls (boba)
  • 4 cups water (for boiling boba)
  • 2 cups water (for brewing tea)
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea or 2 black tea bags
  • 1 cup milk (whole, almond, or any milk of your choice)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: flavored syrups (like vanilla or caramel) for extra sweetness

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil.
  2. Once boiling, add the tapioca pearls and stir gently to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the boba according to package instructions (usually 5-10 minutes) until they float and have a chewy texture.
  4. Remove from heat and let the boba sit in the hot water for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Drain the boba using a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water to stop cooking.
  6. Transfer the boba to a bowl, mix with 1/4 cup of sugar, and let sit for about 10 minutes to absorb sweetness.
  7. In a separate pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  8. Add loose black tea or tea bags to the boiling water (use a tea infuser for loose tea).
  9. Let steep for about 5 minutes, adjusting steeping time for desired strength.
  10. Remove tea bags or infuser and stir in remaining sugar (adjust to taste).
  11. Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, or refrigerate to speed up the process.
  12. In a tall glass, add about 1/4 cup of sweetened boba pearls to the bottom.
  13. Fill the glass with ice cubes, leaving space for tea and milk.
  14. Pour cooled tea over the ice and boba, filling the glass halfway.
  15. Add milk of your choice to fill the glass, adjusting the milk-to-tea ratio as desired.
  16. Optionally, drizzle in flavored syrup for extra flavor.
  17. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  18. Enjoy your homemade boba milk tea with a wide straw!

Notes

  • Use high-quality tea for the best flavor; loose leaf tea often provides a richer taste.
  • Avoid overcooking the boba; they should be chewy but not hard.
  • Adjust sugar to your preferred sweetness level.
