Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and light-brown sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the salt and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.
  8. Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the dough to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 24 hours).
  9. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  10. Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Optionally, press a few additional chocolate chips on top of each cookie dough ball.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underbaked.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough is crucial for achieving the perfect chewy texture.
  • For best results, do not overmix the dough after adding the flour.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
