Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may not need all the flour.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
  7. Spread the softened butter evenly over the surface of the risen dough.
  8. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  9. Punch down the risen dough to release the air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about 16×12 inches.
  10. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seam to seal it.
  11. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss.
  12. Place the cut rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving space between each roll. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for about 30-45 minutes.
  13. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  14. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  15. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  16. Once the rolls are done baking, let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before drizzling the icing over the top.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure your yeast is fresh and active.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of the icing by adding more or less powdered sugar.
