Peach Iced Tea: The Ultimate Refreshing Summer Drink

Refreshing homemade peach iced tea with fresh peach puree, black tea, lemon, and a touch of sweetness. The perfect summer drink!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ripe peaches, pitted and roughly chopped
  • 8 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 black tea bags (or equivalent loose leaf tea)
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Instructions

  1. Combine Peaches and Water: In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped peaches and 2 cups of water.
  2. Simmer Until Soft: Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the peaches are very soft and easily mashed.
  3. Mash the Peaches: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Using a potato masher or the back of a spoon, thoroughly mash the peaches until you have a chunky puree.
  4. Strain the Puree: Place a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth-lined colander over a large bowl. Pour the peach puree into the sieve and let it drain naturally. Gently press on the solids to extract more juice.
  5. Discard the Solids: Once you’ve extracted as much juice as possible, discard the peach solids.
  6. Heat the Water: In a separate saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  7. Steep the Tea: Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the tea bags. Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Remove Tea Bags: After steeping, remove the tea bags and discard them.
  9. Add Sugar: While the tea is still hot, add the sugar and stir until it is completely dissolved.
  10. Cool the Tea: Let the tea cool to room temperature.
  11. Combine Peach Juice and Tea: In a large pitcher, combine the cooled peach juice and the cooled tea.
  12. Add Remaining Water: Add the remaining 2 cups of water to the pitcher.
  13. Add Lemon Slices: Add the thinly sliced lemon to the pitcher.
  14. Stir Well: Stir everything together well.
  15. Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  16. Prepare Glasses: Fill glasses with ice cubes.
  17. Pour Iced Tea: Pour the chilled peach iced tea into the glasses.
  18. Garnish (Optional): Garnish with fresh mint sprigs, if desired.
  19. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking.
  • Experiment with different types of tea.
  • Add other fruits to the peach puree, such as raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries.
  • Top off each glass with sparkling water or club soda for a fizzy twist.
  • For an even more intense peach flavor, make a peach simple syrup by simmering equal parts peach juice and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
  • For an adult version, add a shot of bourbon to each glass.
  • Blend the iced tea with ice for a frozen slushie.
  • Pour the iced tea into popsicle molds and freeze for a refreshing treat.
  • Leftover peach iced tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
