This Watermelon Margarita offers a refreshing twist on a classic cocktail, blending fresh watermelon juice, zesty lime, and a touch of spice. Perfect for summer gatherings, it’s a vibrant and delightful drink that will keep you cool and satisfied.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of fresh watermelon, cubed
  • 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice (about 45 limes)
  • 1/2 cup of tequila (preferably silver)
  • 1/4 cup of orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 2 tablespoons of agave syrup (adjust based on sweetness preference)
  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder (adjust based on spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt (plus more for rimming the glasses)
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh lime wedges and watermelon slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting the watermelon into small cubes. You’ll need about 4 cups of cubed watermelon. Make sure to remove any seeds if you’re using a seeded variety.
  2. Place the watermelon cubes into a blender. Blend on high until the watermelon is completely liquefied (about 30 seconds to 1 minute).
  3. Strain the watermelon juice through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher to remove any pulp. Use a spatula to press down on the pulp to extract as much juice as possible.
  4. Set the strained watermelon juice aside. You should have about 3 cups of juice.
  5. In a large mixing bowl or pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed watermelon juice with the lime juice.
  6. Add the tequila and orange liqueur to the mixture. Stir gently to combine.
  7. Add the agave syrup, adjusting the sweetness to your liking.
  8. Add the chili powder and sea salt to the mixture. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
  9. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass to help the salt stick.
  10. On a small plate, combine sea salt with a pinch of chili powder.
  11. Dip the rim of each glass into the salt and chili powder mixture for an even coating.
  12. Fill each glass with ice cubes.
  13. Pour the watermelon margarita mixture over the ice, filling each glass to the top.
  14. Garnish each margarita with a lime wedge and a small slice of watermelon on the rim of the glass.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness and spice levels according to your preference.
  • Enjoy the extra watermelon juice as a refreshing drink on its own!
