Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup salsa (your choice of mild or spicy)

Instructions

  1. Place the flank steak in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it’s well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight for enhanced flavor).
  4. Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat your grill or a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, ensuring it’s well-oiled.
  6. Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness (aim for an internal temperature of 130°F for medium-rare).
  7. Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  8. Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips and set aside.
  9. Warm the corn tortillas on a hot skillet for about 30 seconds on each side or wrap them in foil and place them in a warm oven.
  10. Keep the tortillas covered with a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm and pliable.
  11. Take a warm tortilla and place a generous amount of sliced steak in the center.
  12. Top with diced onions and fresh cilantro.
  13. Add a few slices of avocado.
  14. Drizzle your favorite salsa over the top.
  15. Squeeze a wedge of lime over the assembled taco.
  16. Arrange the assembled tacos on a serving platter with extra lime wedges and a bowl of salsa on the side.
  17. Gather your friends or family around the table and enjoy!

Notes

  • For additional toppings, consider shredded cheese, sour cream, or pickled jalapeños.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the steak with grilled vegetables or black beans.
  • Leftover steak can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before serving.
