Sweet Potato Pie: A Delicious Recipe for the Perfect Holiday Dessert

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 pound)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Wash the sweet potatoes under cold water and pat them dry.
  3. Prick each sweet potato several times with a fork.
  4. Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until tender.
  5. Let the sweet potatoes cool, then peel off the skin.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, mash the peeled sweet potato flesh until smooth.
  7. Add granulated sugar and brown sugar, mixing well.
  8. Beat in the softened butter until creamy.
  9. Pour in the milk, add eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  10. Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan.
  11. Pour the sweet potato filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
  12. Optionally, sprinkle extra cinnamon on top.
  13. Bake the pie at 400°F (200°C) for 45-50 minutes, or until set.
  14. Cover the edges with aluminum foil if they brown too quickly.
  15. Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours.
  16. Slice and serve the pie.
  17. Enjoy it plain or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
  18. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
