Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup guacamole (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Stir in the taco seasoning and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the Cream Cheese Layer: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble the Taco Dip: Spread the refried beans evenly in a large serving platter or 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Layer the seasoned ground beef over the refried beans.
  6. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the ground beef.
  7. Spoon the guacamole over the cream cheese layer.
  8. Spread the salsa over the guacamole.
  9. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese over the salsa.
  10. Garnish with sliced black olives and chopped green onions.
  11. Chill and Serve: Cover the taco dip with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with tortilla chips.

Notes

  • Spice it up: Add cayenne pepper to the ground beef or use spicy salsa.
  • Make it vegetarian: Substitute ground beef with vegetarian ground beef or black beans.
  • Add more veggies: Diced tomatoes, bell peppers, or corn can be added.
  • Use different cheeses: Experiment with pepper jack or Colby jack.
  • Make it ahead: Can be made a day or two in advance.
  • Individual servings: Prepare individual servings in small cups or bowls.
